Do you have any thoughts about the book of Job prior to this sermon series? Have you heard sermons on it or studied it in a past small group?
Job's righteousness is never questioned. God himself calls Job "blameless" and "upright" (2:3). Therefore, his suffering seems to violate theprinciple of retribution: the righteous are blessed and prosper, while the wicked are cursed and suffer. Have you struggled with this issue of undeserved suffering? What other aspects of suffering have challenged your faith in God?
Have you ever experienced the loneliness of suffering, feeling like your world has changed while everyone goes on in their normal routines? Did anything help lessen that feeling of loneliness?
Why do you think God directs us to consider the PURPOSE of our suffering rather than the CAUSE?
