Kapsowar Sheep Project
Would you like to help a family in need in a way that will sustain them for many years? Please consider buying a baked good from the children of Immanuel Community Church and donating towards our Kapsowar Sheep Project where you can help us buy sheep for families in need. Or you can contribute any time of the year towards this cause by paying through a sign-up on our ChurchCenter app OR by check or Zelle to ICC. Contact Carol for instructions for the latter.
Where is Kapsowar? Kapsowar is a small town in Kenya which is located in east Africa where our lead pastor (Steve Lee) served as a medical missionary for five years. During his time there he witnessed firsthand how raising sheep was a viable source of living with the ability to pull families out of a cycle of poverty.
How do sheep provide income for families? The sheep provide a sustainable source of income for families by having their wool sheared and after they multiply they can also be sold off individually to generate additional income. Each family would be given a single female sheep with the anticipation of breeding it shortly after getting it. How is it decided who gets these sheep? There is a fair process of vetting the families to identify those who are in greatest need for these sheep and trusted pastor contacts in Kapsowar will give us pictures and stories of the families as they are selected. In the past we have also met up with the families who have received sheep in person during mission trips. |
What is the cost of purchasing these sheep? The cost of a sheep varies according to the season but it currently costs about $35 to purchase a single sheep (which is half the cost of what it was in recent years due to a strong U.S. dollar today). Please donate whatever you can and know that 100% of your donations will go directly towards the purchase of these sheep to help as many needy families in Kapsowar as possible.
