"A Spirit-Empowered Life"
April 25, 2021 Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. -1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. - Romans 8:14-17 1. When was the last time that God surprised you with something He has done through the work of the Spirit in your life? (e.g. a demonstration of His power, mercy or grace?) 2. In the sermon Pastor Steve said: To say that we’re saved by grace does mean that we can’t earn our salvation by doing good works. But it doesn't mean that we can live however we want as long as we agree to a set of facts about what Jesus did for us. Even in the New Covenant given to us through Jesus, there are covenant expectations that we will live a life of holiness and obedience… God not only declares us righteous, but as followers of Jesus we’re called to be righteous. Read 1 Thess 5:19-22. In what ways may you have quenched or resisted the Spirit’s work in your life to grow in Christ-likeness? Where do you find your own points of resistance in this calling to be righteous? 3. Pastor Steve closed the message with some personal examples in which He has sensed the Holy Spirit doing a work in his heart (e.g. EV cars, dieting & food). Can you share an example in your own life where you sense the Spirit at work in you? How might the group support or pray for you to fully surrender to that work? Comments are closed.
