The next cohort for Journey Groups is about to begin! The Journey Groups program is comprised of a series of journeys, each exploring spiritual formation through a different spiritual discipline (slowing, solitude, prayer, service, celebration, etc.). John Ortberg writes ...
Right now you cannot run a marathon. More to the point, you cannot run a marathon even if you try really, really hard. Trying hard can accomplish only so much. If you are serious about seizing this chance of a lifetime, you will have to enter into a life of training. You must arrange your life around certain practices that will enable you to do what you cannot do now by willpower alone. When it comes to running a marathon, you must train, not merely try. ... Spiritual transformation is not a matter of trying harder, but of training wisely. This is what the apostle Paul means when he encourages his young protégé Timothy to “train yourself in godliness.”
Each Journey Group is made up of a triad (3 people), which meets every two weeks. Within each triad one person should be designated as a facilitator. The facilitators will attend monthly meetings (held on Sundays after service) where they will be taught a new discipline. They will then facilitate the discussion regarding that discipline during their triad meetings. (Groups also have the option of having different members of the triad attend the facilitators' meeting, rather than having one person attend all of them.)
The Journey Groups program is not only an journey through the spiritual disciplines, but also a journey of exploring our brokenness. This is achieved through a shared online journal as well as the discussions during each Journey Group meeting. Thus, to see real spiritual growth through Journey Groups will require a willingness to share our lives with others. The entire program will last for 18 months.
If you want to sign up, please be sure that you will be able to keep the commitment for the full length of the program. If you already know the members of your triad, you can sign up together. If you sign up individually, we will assign you to a triad. You can sign up through this online signup form HERE, or you can also use the paper form at the Welcoming Table in the Fellowship Hall. The deadline for signing up is February 25 and the first facilitators' meeting will be held on March 18.
