Our Building History
Our story began in February of 2007 with about 50 people who answered the call to plant a church in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
2017

Our Launch
Our first service was held on Sunday, Feb 11, 2007 at Adolph Link elementary school in Elk Grove Village, Illinois with Pastor Reggie Ramos serving as the planting pastor.
2010

Our Prayers
A year after Pastor Steve Lee became the lead pastor of ICC, we relocated to Helen Keller Jr High in Hoffman Estates where we began praying for a permanent church home.
2016

Our Community
We moved to Northfield Presbyterian Church in Wheeling where we settled into church space for the first time. God grew our heart for this community and we began asking God to provide a new home in this area.
2019

Our Outreach
As we continued to grow, we relocated to Our Saviour Evangelical Free Church in northwest Wheeling. Together we partnered with them in reaching the community while praying, saving and searching for our new home.
2024

Our New Home
In March of 2024, God answered our prayers and we closed on the purchase of our new church campus. We moved our offices to this location that summer and completed light renovations for our youth and children’s spaces in early 2025.

Our Prayer
We are building out a new sanctuary and fellowship hall for the adults and we are in need of your prayers and financial donations to complete this project and pay for our capital improvement needs.
Our Building Mission & Vision
Our hope is that many will encounter the life-changing hope of Jesus through this kingdom outpost that God has called us to in Wheeling, Illinois and that it would serve as a light and refuge for our people and our community for generations to come.

A breakdown of our needs:

Work Completed To Date
On March 18, 2024 we closed on the purchase of our new campus made up of 4 buildings totaling 62K square feet on 5.4 acres of land.
That spring we had teams of ICC volunteers help with the clean up and painting of the available spaces in Building 3 (5200 Capitol Dr) and did some light renovation costing $25K so that our staff could move into our new offices and our youth group could begin gathering weekly by the summer of 2024.
In the fall of 2024 we began light work in Building 4 (5150 Capitol Dr) to make the space and classrooms more suitable for our Catalyst youth ministries and completed this work by the winter of 2024. This included new flooring, paint, lighting, updated kitchenette, etc and also upgraded new HVAC units for the entire building (totaling +$300K), which includes the Learning House space (our main tenant).
In March of 2025 we moved out of Our Saviour Evangelical Free Church and the adults began worshiping on Sundays at 10am at Bisco Hall with our children using Building 2 (6200 Capitol Dr) and our Catalyst youth using Building 4 (5150 Capitol Dr) for their Sunday programs.

Work in Progress
Work began work in 2025 on the buildout of our new adult sanctuary and fellowship hall in Building 3 (5200 Capitol Dr).
Our new sanctuary will be 5,000 SF seating 350 adults and fellowship hall will be about 4,000 SF. There will also be a 2,000 SF Cafe on the west side of the sanctuary which will be available for members to work or small groups to gather throughout the week or even an alternative hangout location for our youth.
Click HERE to view the floor plan when we purchased the building and what it will look like when renovation is complete. We will be scheduling tours in the near future for those who would like to see this space in person.
The construction contract to complete this work totaled $550K of which we have about $200K remaining to pay. As of Sept 2025, the work is ~65% complete and we are hoping to move out of Bisco Hall on Sundays by November 2025 and into our new sanctuary.

Near Term Needs
By setting aside over a decade of operating surpluses we saved enough money to cover the down payment for our building purchase last year and much of the current renovations to date, however our cash balance is getting very low.
By raising $500K for our building fund early on (by 1Q 2026) we can pay off the remaining balance of $200K of our construction contract for Building 3 (sanctuary, fellowship hall & cafe) without completely exhausting all of our cash (operating reserves).
As part of our original purchase agreement, Promise & Fulfillment Church (PNF - the Seller) is expected to vacate their space by early 2026 which encompasses all of Building 1 (6300 Capitol Dr) and a portion of Building 2 (6200 Capitol Dr) which will be used primarily for our Kingdom Kids Children’s Ministry. Therefore, we will need to do some updating and furnishing of this space to make it more suitable for our children’s ministries.
We will also need to replace all of the HVAC units in both of these buildings soon as they are almost all original (38 years old) and parts are no longer available for repair.
Lastly, we also hope to resurface and do some spot repair of our parking lot. All of these additional costs are expected to cost about $300K in total and will be needed by early 2026.

Future Capital Improvements
At this time we do not have plans for a Phase 2 as we want to spend the next few years seeing how we use the space we have, wait on the Lord’s will and timing and hear from the voices of our members regarding next steps, if any. As such, there are currently no plans for a Phase 2 regarding a larger sanctuary, or a gymnasium.
However, since the buildings were constructed in 1987 there are a significant amount of major capital expenses that we need to plan for in the coming years. This includes new windows which are in need of replacement (estimated at $200K - some of which have wind/snow blowing in and need urgent replacement), new roofs (all 4 are original estimated at $500K and experiencing some leaking in areas) and if adequate funds remain, exploring ways to interconnect the buildings (with covered walkways or climate-controlled design) that will enhance the safety and access of our large campus (up to $300K).
By collecting pledges in 2026 for an additional $1.0MM (to be funded by end of 2026) this will allow us to have the adequate financial resources to address the major repairs and replacement of capital items we have identified in the next 12-24 months.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I help?
First, please join us in prayer. God has been so faithful to our prayers since the start of our church and throughout our building search, and we are fully confident God will provide for our needs in this season. But we pray, more than meeting our financial goals, that this season in which we are being stretched towards perhaps uncomfortable levels of self-giving love and generosity that our faith and our unity will be strengthened, fulfilling our greater mission of growing disciples for Christ. All members are welcome to attend Prayer Meetings on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month through December starting this Wednesday 9/17 from 7:30-9:00pm, in the Bldg 4, small chapel (5150 Capitol Dr).
Second, please consider how you might give financially. We are on the brink of exhausting all of our cash reserves purchasing the building and completing nearly all of the renovations to date but now we need your help to cross the finish line, make the space more suitable for our ministry needs, and to cover some large capital improvement costs in the near future (see other parts of this page for more details on this).
Third, please consider how you can use your gifts and skills to bless our property so it can be a blessing to our church and community. As our space grows our ministry needs continue to grow and so if you have a gift or talent or passion that can improve our property or use of our space please let us know!
When are we expected to move into our new sanctuary?
We believe our new sanctuary will be ready before the end of the year and are working hard towards moving over by this November. Some of it is beyond our control as it depends on a phased permitting process with the village but this is what we are striving for. Please pray for this target arrival date.
Why are the costs higher than what was stated earlier this year?
At our annual meeting in February we conveyed that our shortfall was estimated to be approximately $200K. As we have become more familiar with the capital needs of the entire campus and gathered more contractor quotes through our current construction, coupled with rapidly inflating costs, we have revised our near-term needs to $500K which will allow us to finish our new sanctuary and fellowship hall, furnish our spaces properly and also address some urgent capital needs such as re-surfacing and repairing our parking lot and replacing the HVAC units in our last two buildings (bldgs 1 & 2).
The additional $1.0MM (which we hope to raise by end of 2026) will cover our remaining major capital improvement needs throughout the campus, which include the need for new windows and roofs (original from 1987) which are beginning to fail. If we reach this goal we will also look to address how to best connect the 4 buildings on our campus for both safety and easier access.
What is the plan for Phase 2?
At this time we do not have plans for a Phase 2 as we want to spend the next few years seeing how we utilize the space we have in concert with our changing needs, waiting and praying on the Lord’s will and timing and hearing from the voices of our members. Therefore, although there were some thoughts early on of a Phase 2 regarding building out a new larger sanctuary or possibly a gymnasium, those are off the table for now.
How does this building fit into our mission and vision as a church?
This is a special season in which we are refining our mission and vision as a church and rallying our people around it and so we want our building and spaces to align with this in every way. As stated, Immanuel Community Church exists to make apprentices of Jesus and our vision is to be a family of Christ, carrying out His mission for the renewal of all things. Therefore, we want our space to also express these values, where it is not just used on Sundays for worship but is utilized nearly every day of the week to serve our community and our members.
This can be seen in building out space that is multi-functional (plenty of inviting spaces for Bible studies and small groups), centered around “the Table”, with a cafe and a commercial kitchen to foster connection and community around the enjoyment of food and drink, inviting meaningful conversations and dialogue throughout the week. And serving and learning spaces that can meet the needs of our local community (e.g. food pantry, language learning, immigration legal help, etc) and also support like-minded local ministries (e.g. choirs, youth dance ministries, other local churches) that communicate the gospel through the arts and share our heart for the kingdom.
When is Promise & Fulfillment Church (PNF) vacating their space and what is our plan for it?
For those who may not know, PNF was the seller of the building to ICC in 2024 and since they did not yet identify a building they could move to at the time of sale, we negotiated a lease-back to them which allowed them up to 2 years in their current space (which expires in Mar 2026) as they continued their search for a new home. They currently utilize all of Building 1 at 6300 Capitol Dr and a portion of Building 2 at 6200 Capitol Dr which combined totals close to 20,000 SF or nearly 1/3 of our campus.
At this time, we are expecting to move our children’s ministry into Building 1 (requiring some possible reconfiguring of the space) which will open up Building 2 for other potential uses. This is yet to be determined but could include moving our junior high ministry into Building 2 (as both junior and senior high are currently crammed into Building 4) and/or expanding space for small groups (which are in high demand) and/or dedicating space for a community center. We will prayerfully consider our options based on our ministry needs as the space becomes available.
